DR Congo Position Paper SPECPOL
Country: DR CONGO
Committee: SPECPOL
Agenda Items:
- The Kashmir-Jammu conflict between India and Pakistan
- The question of the reform of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
- The South Sudanese Civil War
To start with the first issue, we believe peace must be set in the Kashmir area as soon as possible in order to stop human right violations. According to the reports sent from the regions, the Indian side has been violating human rights by implementing punishments such as rape, torture, enforced disappearance, and murders on people whom they call as terrorists. There are 3 parts of this conflict. We believe that the Indian side must be judged because of the crimes in Kashmir. Secondly, a peace force must take over the management and this peace force must be impartial and rule the region fairly. We believe that this region must choose their own fate themselves. A referendum can be held in the region and people can choose their government and regime.
As DRC we have 5 different national parks which take place in the UNESCO’s world heritage. We believe that we all nations must protect their world heritages. No one should forget that all historical sites belong to all countries in the world. That’s why tourism and other gains centred movement should let governments destroy world heritages. All tourist guides must be trained in order to raise public awareness about protecting the world heritages. All heritages must be declared as protected areas no one should be allowed to build anything to those sites. We should keep those sites clean and it would be a good idea to place trash bins in the protected areas.
The last topic is The South Sudanese Civil War. Unfortunately, nearly 400.000 people lost their lives because of the conflict in South Sudan. As the delegate of the DRC, we believe that it would be beneficial for all nations to end the conflict in the region. Currently, DRC is having trouble accepting more Sudanese refugees. Our Resources are limited, we can’t accept more refugees. We believe that the Sudanese government must be forced to make peace otherwise millions of people will face with extreme living conditions.
